We awakened to our last morning at the Rum Point Resort (RPR) and began our Rum Point morning ritual of yoga, stretching and a pre-breakfast morning walk.

As mentioned previously, our walk was lined by majestic mansions, each with an imposing yet inviting front façade. In back, each had a dock abutting a waterway that leads out to the Caribbean Sea.

What I failed to mention, however, was that apparently all the houses of Rum Point have prominently displayed names! Delightful!!

Did you know that if you name your car, it will live longer? The same must be true for homes.
Check out was 11am, so that gave us just enough time to return from our walk, clean up, pack and enjoy one more leisurely breakfast on the terrace gazing at the Caribbean Sea. Then, we were off to drive home to our own personal paradise on the west side of the Island.
We made one pit stop on the way home and that was to Rum Point’s “market,” so we would know in advance of our next visit what it had to offer. (Recall that I mentioned being caught by surprise when I discovered that the coffee maker in our fully equipped kitchen had no coffee!)
Chisholm’s Grocery is roughly an 8 minute drive [7.1km/4.5mi] east from the RPR.

If you provide a list, the Rum Point Resort will do your shopping for you. Of course, there is a KY$50 minimum and a 20% added surcharge on top of the already astronomical pricing at Chisholm’s. (In all fairness to Chisholm’s, the prices charged are understandable, given this is a remote part of an Island, and our Island is not self-sufficient, relying heavily on imports to sustain its population.
Although Chisholm’s product selection is limited, it does offer a premium spot for an outdoor picnic.

Regrettably, Chisolm’s has no Deli, so be sure to pack your own picnic. Otherwise, you will be forced to settle for chips and a beer.
It was too early for us to stay for lunch, so we headed for home. When we arrived and opened the front door, the “Welcoming Committee” was waiting. “Where have you BEEN???”

Ahh, indeed, there’s no place like home.
Conclusion about our Rum Point Vacation
Is Rum Point everyone’s paradise? Probably not, and least likely for first-time visitors to Grand Cayman because of its secluded location. Rum Point is a quiet area, especially off season when its inhabitants are predominantly locals on weekends. However, Rick and I are perfectly content with just each other’s company in a place of beauty and comfort where we can swim, kayak, snorkel and walk in peace and tranquility – so Rum Point suits us just fine, thank you.
