We’ve resided on Grand Cayman 3 years now – and not taken a vacation since we arrived. Sure, I’ve written about plenty of day adventures we’ve had. However, there have been no stay-overnight-and-pack-a-suitcase vacations.
Today that changes. This is the first day of our 3-night vacation in Rum Point.
I’ve written about Rum Point before, after our first visit to the remote area. (See Even an Expat needs a Stay Day Vacation.) It’s located at the far north tip of Grand Cayman Island.

Rum Point is easy to reach by boat by crossing the North Sound from where we live in West Bay; not so much by car. Our condo does have a dock; however, we do not own a yacht (nor even a rowboat). By car, off season and midday, it’s generally a 2-hour drive (each way) along the water’s edge of the Caribbean Sea, looping south, then east, then north and finally west.
Monday late morning we packed up Blue Bunny III and off we drove on Day 1 of our Rum Point Vacation.

We reached Rum Point in record time ─ just over an hour!
So, instead of heading straight to the resort, we opted to go out to Starfish Point for a picnic lunch by the sea.

As it was a Monday and off season, we had little competition for a picnic table.

And even though we had packed our own lunch, we went looking for and found a friend we discovered on our first day trip to the beach over a year ago, The (seaworthy) Pirates Grill.

Our next stop was the Rum Point Resort (RPR), aka The Rum Point Club Home – Rum Point Resort.

On up to our spacious, 4th floor (suite #407) ocean view accommodations with a full kitchen …

An expansive terrace that ran the full width of the suite, paralleling the beach and Caribbean Sea …

And overlooking the pool which appeared to be a lap swimmer’s delight!

Forget about unpacking. We headed straight for the pool for a swim!

Fully-equipped kitchen or not, this vacation was about enjoying pampered dining every night. Thus, we ended our day with a lovely dinner on the veranda of the resort’s restaurant Blue Flame. https://rumpointresort.com/restaurant/

Yes, I know that I should end Day 1 with a photo of the sun setting over the Caribbean as we dined. However, we were enjoying the peace of the evening together so much that I forgot to take that photo, so that sunset lives on only in my memory, albeit vividly. Perhaps tomorrow evening …
